We're back! It's been awhile again for this game hasn't it. With the new year the pace may pick up, we'll see. As a reminder, this cast of fun is as follows:
Bucky, our friendly neighborhood Goblin of the fire-bombing persuasion
Wazboot, our steady Human cleric
Fallos, the outgoing Halfling swashbuckler
Splint'r, the rat-folk monk with whom we do not have a common language
Kajar, the Half-Elf summoner along with his crazy looking eidelon
Ashryn, the scarred and stoic Elven fighter
When last we left the chaos in Sandpoint had calmed down and we had retired to our rooms for the night. Well, except for Splint'r, he decided to meditate in the dining room. Unfortunately due to Ashryn's nightmare and Fallos' weird passing out mid-combat nightmare from the previous day, both wake up "on the wrong side of the bed". They are literally shaken* by these nightmares.
Early in the morning Bethanna, our scatterbrained halfling tavern keep, comes in to start the breakfast routine and is startled at Splint'r sitting there calmly. As they too do not share a language, she just scurries off to start the morning and arrives shortly with food for him. A little while later, a very cranky Ashryn comes in in full plate armor not trying to be quiet, parks herself near Splint'r, and as gently as she can muster asks Bethanna for food. She scared the poor lass though, and Bethanna is convinced Ashryn is mad at her. Splint'r, not quite sure what was being said but saw the reactions, tried handing Ashryn some bacon. She waved it off with a smile (that probably looked more like a grimace).
Shortly after that, Bucky silently sneaks on in and pops up in between Ashryn and Splint'r, followed closely by a very silent and grumpy Fallos. The normally energetic and outgoing Fallos - really, him and Bucky go non stop - is saying ssshhhh and holding up one finger to us whenever someone says something. That gets him the raised eyebrow stare. And Splint'r, who doesn't understand the words but sees the actions, tries handing Fallos some bacon. He accepts.
So poor Bethanna comes back to the table with something and Bucky pops up and goes HIIII! Well, she's already rattled and this town has a history of problems with goblins so she jumps and screams goblin! And then remembers Bucky is part of the "Heroes of Sandpoint". Just as she was about to catch the plates of foods, Bucky and Fallos grab them and set them on the table. The poor lass scurries off to get more food at this point.
Wazboot and Kajar come down and join the festivities and we spend some time quietly eating breakfast and discussing what the next steps are. Things were going so well and then in walks Aldern Foxglove, the nobleman they had rescued from being eaten during the goblin fight. The one that is quite enamored with Ashryn. He looks delighted and comes right up to our table and starts talking as Ashryn literally puts her head in her hands.
"I was hoping I would find you, so I can properly thank all of you for saving my life last night. My lady, are you all right?" She twitches at that phrase and snaps out "rough night". "Well, yes, it was quite the night." He then continues talking about wanting to properly thank us and could he join us. Wazboot graciously waves a hand and says "of course!" Ashryn just stares at Wazboot in disbelief and does the 'what are you doing' hands.
Aldern Foxglove continues talking, and wants to properly reward us for helping him in his time of need yesterday. Bucky, being an observant goblin*, leans over to Wazboot and Fallos and stage-whispers "I think he wants to eat her!". This garnered a few chuckles, luckily Aldern did not hear, and he proceeds to invite us out on a boar hunt. Ashryn stiffens but before she can say anything, Wazboot accepts the invite. Again, he got the disbelief and 'what are you doing' hands. So tomorrow morning before dawn we are to meet him at the Goblin Smasher Stables to mount up and go on a boar hunt.
Aldern Foxglove then continues his monologue, roots around in his pocket, and places a sizable amount of gold on the table and bids us good day and that he'd see us in the morning.
Bucky, realizing Fallos is not his normal cheerful self and that Ashryn is surlier than normal, scampers off for a few minutes, then comes back with two vials of a vile brown liquid. He bids us to drink these as it will help. Fallos does without hesitation, then realizes Ashryn is watching his reaction so he faked passing out/dying. With a sigh Ashryn accepts the vile liquid and downs it. They were potions Bucky whipped up in his portable alchemy lab to help calm our nerves.
So after a bit of back and forth, Kajar decides to stay at the inn. Fallos, Bucky, and Splint'r decide to hit up the general store to sell off some items. Wazboot and Ashryn decide to go find the town sheriff to find out if they were able to track the goblins footprints after they left the town wall.
After the rest of the party left the inn, a beautiful redheaded lass came up to Kajar, tentatively asking him for his help. She's sure it's nothing but there's some noises in her basement that are scaring her. If he could just come over and check it out for her she'd be so grateful. Kajar points out that he is not the one you want in the case of combat, but he summons creatures that can most definitely deal with any basement critters she may have and he can loan her one. She's not really digging this idea and keeps asking him to come with her to make sure there's no critters in her basement. So he asks his eidelon* to come in. She screams, jumps, and hides behind him, kind of grabbing his shoulder in the process.
Kajar reassures the redhead that it is ok, the eidelon does his bidding, but eventually agrees to go with her to her home. So they take off for the general store, as apparently her father owns it and that is where she lives.
And that was the end of this session! More in a couple of weeks.
* game mechanics wise, both Ashryn and Fallos have negatives to pretty much anything they do because of this
* goblins are notorious about their eating habits, they basically evaluate everything by is it edible
* Kajar's eidelon is basically a child's nightmare drawing come to life. I can not figure out how to describe it well. It has the body of a large ... dog? but a long neck more like a giraffe or snake that bends about different ways. I'll try to get a solid description.
