Episode 9: ITS A TRAP!!!

So when we last left our adventurers we were standing around a dead werewolf while recovering our night vision and deciding how to proceed. See we're convinced that the werewolves know this tunnel is here now and attack is imminent. We did decide however to continue on as before with one change. Now Malek, who is the sneakiest, goes first, then Meghan 30' behind him, then the rest of the party 30' behind her. Paul is remaining still with the main party in case of separation/communication needs, but he's moved to riding on Lutor's horns instead of Vohn's diminutive shoulders.


Going down the hallway for a good while, it opened up into a room that had 10 cells on the left wall and 10 more cells on the right wall, and we heard a scurrying up ahead. The scurrying was from the right so Malek went right, Meghan went left. All of the cells were closed and locked and weirdly had family names above each cell. There were no occupants of the cells, though there were ancient/decrepit beds in each cell.


The scurrying turned out to be a pair of young wolves, so Meghan as the party Druid stepped up to talk to them. She was unsuccessful though. Fizzledorp the Paladin had joined us by this time and he attempted to talk to them, with some limited success. So he did a Speak with Animals spell to find out that these two young wolves were actually human children (ages 8 and 4), their father was the dead werewolf in the Gelatinous Cube, and until tonight they were normal human farmer and kids. They were terrified and had absolutely no idea what was going on.


Being a generally good sort of party (though at least two of us are more neutral) we set the pups up with some food, water, and opened a cell so they can get to a bed (or under a bed if something scary comes through). We then left them there to be safe. We hope so anyway, this whole situation is getting weird.


We continued down the hallway following the same process as before. After a little bit of uneventful time, the hallway opened into a semi-circle room with rotted tapestries, a couple of statues along the far wall with a door, and a lever with the number 30 above it. OK, that's weird. Our party goes into the room to explore and one of us steps right on a pressure plate. This had an immediate effect of slamming a gate down across the entrance to the tunnel we had just vacated, and the number 30 started counting down. 29. 28. 27.


Thonk, our "wizard", walks right up to the lever and pulls it. Which reset the counter to 30, but it returned to counting down. So he stood there pulling the lever, keeping the timer at 30 while the rest of the party investigated the room, to no real revelations. Though, at one point Lutor got near one of the statues and it activated/attacked him. So we dispatched the statue (golem).


But we're still locked in this room with a timer ticking down ... 29 ... 28 ... 27 ... 26 ...
